C’est à coup de pelles mécaniques que la tour de contrôle de cette infrastructure aéroportuaire a été rasée ce dimanche 24 juillet. Par ce geste, la reconstruction du célèbre aéroport de Ziguinchor peut enfin démarrer. En activité depuis près de 75 ans, ce lieu a vu embarquer et débarquer des centaines de milliers de passagers.
Cette reconstruction entre en droite ligne avec l’ambition du Président de la République, Macky Sall, de faire du Sénégal le premier hub aérien de la sous-région en 2035. « L’aéroport de Ziguinchor va connaître une véritable mue avec la construction de nouvelles infrastructures qui seront totalement repensées », évoque le communiqué de l’AIBD exploité par Seneweb.
Cette volonté se joint, par ailleurs, à la volonté d’élever la Casamance au rang de deuxième plateforme aéroportuaire nationale avec Ziguinchor, Kolda et Cap Skirring comme hub aérien et logistique du Sud.
