L’insécurité grandissante au sein du transport urbain et interurbain préoccupe beaucoup de passagers. Des malfaiteurs font usage de somnifères pour s’emparer des biens des voyageurs. Un acteur du transport public a alerté sur WhatsApp. « Bés bi » a fait le tour aux Baux maraîchers. Les témoignages sont hallucinants. Reportage.
Comme à l’accoutumée, la gare des Baux maraîchers de Pikine est plongée dans une ambiance chaleureuse. Sous un soleil assez clément, le bruit fuse de partout. Pendant que certaines personnes, visiblement fatiguées par les rayons solaires, s’abritent sous des tentes, d’autres montrent plus de vigueur et essaient de résister, baignant dans une grande sueur.
En cette mi-journée, un grand nombre de voitures est disposé dans l’enceinte de la gare : bus, taxis, mini-cars… À côté, des voyageurs font les derniers réglages pour un voyage lointain. Toutefois, cette belle symbiose est infestée par des témoignages de quelques acteurs du secteur des transports. Le manque de sécurité est, ainsi, une véritable équation qui perturbe la quiétude des usagers.
Des choses bizarres se seraient passées au sein du transport urbain et interurbain. Des actes de banditisme auxquels se livrent des personnes pour faire mal. Une femme raconte que des gens malintentionnées montent parfois dans les bus ou autres voitures, pour récupérer illégalement les biens d’autrui.
«J’ai entendu des voisins rappeler qu’un des leurs a été victime de tels actes. En effet, après avoir mangé une banane, alors qu’elle était dans le bus, la personne en question a profondément dormi. Et c’est ainsi que les malfaiteurs lui ont volé tout son argent», dit-elle.
Des somnifères dans les fruits
Cette situation «bizarre» est mieux abordée par Baba Thiam. Selon le président de la gare des Baux maraîchers, il s’agit certes d’un phénomène qui existe depuis longtemps, mais la tournure qu’il a prise actuellement est préoccupante.
Il explique : «Les malfaiteurs utilisent des fruits comme des pommes, des bananes, des oranges… et injectent des somnifères dedans. Une fois que la victime en mange, elle perd connaissance et s’endort». Toujours dans ses explications, M. Thiam renseigne que, «maintenant, les bandits mettent ces produits dans du café et même dans d’autres aliments, pour mieux avoir leurs cibles».
De grosses sommes d’argent emportées…
Des hommes d’un âge relativement avancé sont aussi préoccupés par le phénomène. Assis sur une natte étalée sous l’ombre d’une tente, ils n’ont pas tardé à réagir. Ils sont tous d’accord que la vigilance doit être de mise face à cette situation.
«Il faut vraiment être méfiant. Ce n’est pas sûr d’accepter toutes les faveurs. Il y a des mauvaises personnes parmi nous. C’est pourquoi il est important de faire beaucoup attention», alerte Abdoulaye Guèye, conducteur de voiture.
Et pour mieux conforter sa pensée, il rapporte qu’un jour, un conducteur de voiture “7 places” avait été drogué, de même que tous les passagers. Étant plongé dans un sommeil fou, il ne pouvait plus tenir. C’est ainsi que la voiture a dérapé. Mais, selon toujours les dires de M. Guèye, il n’y avait heureusement pas eu choc mais, les malfaiteurs sont partis avec l’argent et les biens se trouvant dans la voiture. Pis, il raconte qu’un émigré devait rentrer un jour à Ngaye. En cours de route, des personnes malintentionnées l’ont drogué et lui ont pris 7 millions FCfa.
Tout un bus dans les bras de Morphée…
Un fait similaire, mais plus insolite est aussi raconté par Pape Diakhaté. Le membre de la coordination nationale des transporteurs en parle largement : «Un jour, je transportais des passagers vers Kolda. En partant, nous avions pris un client en cours de route. Ensuite, nous avions fait escale à Mbour pour prendre le dîner. Le client avait acheté de la boisson. Personne ne savait qu’il y avait injecté de la drogue. Quand on a repris notre chemin, il en a servi pas mal de personnes. Ces dernières ont profondément dormi. C’est plus tard, au réveil des victimes qu’on s’est rendu compte que le malfaiteur, descendu plus tôt à Kafrine, s’est emparé de plus de 3 millions FCfa».
Et poursuivant, M. Diakhaté fait savoir que récemment, un de ses clients a subi le même sort. Il explique qu’un malfaiteur lui avait offert une orange. Et le client l’a dégustée sans savoir qu’il y avait injecté du somnifère. Et d’après toujours les explications de M. Diakhaté, l’homme a pris à sa victime qui était déjà endormie, 2 millions FCfa.

to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights
in the state constitution — and, while they’re at it, to
vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to « a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created. »
She added, « Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people. »

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several
states where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having
problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.
« Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need, » she told AFP.

As Ireland carries her message to potential voters,
she noted, particularly to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the three
justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

« It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same, » Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity
among young voters.
« I do think that abortion is murder, » said Pedro Lopez,
a 20-year-old college student.
« There are cases of incest or rape » that merit exceptions, he conceded, « but that’s very small. »
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from
Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.
« People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from, » he said.
« My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way. »
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having
entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who work for the federal government.
« I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything, » Lopez said.

The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering an opportunity
to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential
campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the
race for the White House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very
narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be « helping Democrats in the way that they would hope, »
said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes « a broad spectrum of views on the topic, » an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about « government interference, » she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with
the tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding
support not just among Trump Republicans but
also « moderates and even many Democrats, » said John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s
recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is « running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol. »
