Le président de la Fédération sénégalaise de basket-ball (FSBB), Me Babacar Ndiaye, est satisfait de ce choix. «Il a toujours été le leader naturel de l’équipe. Aujourd’hui, le brassard a davantage légitimé ses actions, s’est-il enflammé dans un entretien avec L’Observateur. Il avait tous les joueurs derrière lui. On a senti une adhésion autour de lui. Il n’y a pas de clan dans l’équipe.»
Les résultats ont suivi. Les Lions ont remporté leurs trois matches et le nouveau joueur des Spurs de San Antonio était le meilleur Sénégalais à Monastir. Me Babacar Ndiaye est élogieux, admiratif : «Il s’est sacrifié pour le Sénégal parce qu’il fait partie des rares joueurs NBA qui acceptent de jouer des fenêtres de qualification. Il met son argent, son énergie, pour la réussite de l’équipe. Ça mérite vraiment d’être relevé.»
