Nouveau sélectionneur des Lionnes, Alberto Antuna a de grandes ambitions pour le Sénégal dont il veut qualifier d’abord aux Jeux Olympiques Paris 2024.
C’est sa première fois au Sénégal et le technicien espagnol se dit enchante par sa prise de contact. A défaut de ne pouvoir tenir le rassemblement prévu en décembre en raison de l’indisponibilité des filles, la Fédération Sénégalaise de Basketball a tenu à présenter le successeur de Moustapha Gaye au public.
« Je suis très excité d’être à la tête de l’équipe nationale du Sénégal. J’ai beaucoup d’ambitions en tant que coach.
Je pense qu’on peut faire de grandes choses. Pour moi, le plus important pour moi est de créer une identité de jeu. Je vais travailler avec la fédération afin de mettre en place une solide équipe et élargir l’équipe avec de nouveaux talents » a déclaré Antuna qui fut entraineur de l’Ouganda lors du dernier AfroBasket.
« Je suis prêt à travailler dur, 24h /24, 7 jours /7 pour avoir cette équipe solide qu’on veut construire » a-t-il ajouté.
Au mois de février (8 au 11 février), les Lionnes joueront un tournoi de qualification olympique. Les Lionnes joueront les Etats-Unis, la Belgique et le Nigeria. Le technicien se montre confiant.
« Le premier objectif est la qualification pour les Jeux Olympiques.
On sait que nous aurons du travail dans ce groupe. Je ne serais pas ici si nous ne pouvons pas battre le Nigeria, c’est pourquoi je suis ici. Je sais que nous devrons travailler dur et il ne reste pas beaucoup de temps.
Nous devrons être réalistes. Je sais que l’équipe va être principalement compose des joueuses qui ont disputé l’AfroBasket mais on va démarrer la préparation avec ceux qui seront disponibles surtout au niveau local ».
La fédération ne doute pas de l’engagement du technicien a fait savoir le DTN Raoul Toupane. « Chaque début de semaine, il nous envoie un rapport des filles en compétition ».
