Après un mois de septembre chargé entre la Ligue des Nations pour les équipes européennes et les matchs amicaux pour les sélections issues d’autres confédérations, la FIFA a publié ce jeudi son dernier classement des nations avant la Coupe du monde 2022.
Au niveau mondial, le seul changement notable est la 6e place de l’Italie, qui passe devant l’Espagne. En Afrique, le trio Sénégal-Maroc-Tunisie, trois sélections qualifiées pour le Mondial, truste toujours le podium, suivi du Nigeria. Changement en revanche à la 5e place continentale où l’Algérie effectue son grand retour. Les Fennecs profitent de leur renouveau depuis juin avec 5 victoires consécutives, notamment contre la Guinée (1-0) et le Nigeria (2-1) récemment. Symboliquement, la bande à Djamel Belmadi double ainsi avant le Mondial, le Cameroun, qui l’a privé du Qatar, ainsi que l’Egypte. Les Lions Indomptables paient leur mois de septembre très décevant avec des défaites contre l’Ouzbékistan (2-0) et la Corée du Sud (1-0).
Tout comme l’Algérie, la Mauritanie gagne 4 places au niveau mondial, tandis que la Côte d’Ivoire repart de l’avant grâce à ses victoires contre le Togo (2-1) et la Guinée (3-1) et permet à l’Afrique de compter un 9e représentant dans le Top 50 planétaire. Plus bas, le Cap-Vert (71e) double la RD Congo (73e).
Rendez-vous le 22 décembre après le Mondial pour le prochain classement FIFA, qui s’annonce chamboulé.
