Convocations et arrestations de journalistes au Sénégal: La Coordination des Associations de la Presse (CAP) dénonce et appelle à un changement systémique

La Coordination des Associations de la Presse (CAP) exprime son profond regret devant la résurgence des convocations des journalistes pendant qu’ils accomplissent leur devoir professionnel. 

À moins de deux mois de l’entrée en fonction du nouveau régime, les dirigeants actuels sont devenus des emblèmes de lois restrictives et dépassées qui menacent la liberté d’expression, d’après la CAP.

Dans un communiqué, la CAP « rappelle aux autorités que le Conseil pour l’Observation des Règles d’Éthique et de Déontologie dans les médias (CORED) a été mis en place, avec l’appui des pouvoirs publics, pour justement prendre en charge tous griefs contre les professionnels de l’information. » 

« Les sanctions prévues, d’après le document, qui peuvent aller jusqu’au retrait de la carte nationale de presse, sont largement suffisantes pour veiller au respect des règles d’éthique et de déontologie. »

« Dans le même sillage, si des informations données par des médias sont jugés fausses, les victimes, étatiques ou non etatiques, peuvent user de leur droit de réponse pour rétablir la vérité, sans préjudice de la faculté de porter l’affaire devant le Tribunal des Pairs.

Nous invitons les nouvelles autorités à savoir raison garder et à tirer les leçons de leur propre passé, suffisamment récent pour être oublié », informe le communiqué.

Par ailleurs, la Coordination des Associations de la Presse renouvelle « son soutien aux confrères et consœurs, les invite à continuer à faire preuve de rigueur et de professionnalisme dans le traitement de l’information, d’utiliser des sources qualifiées et d’user de prudence dans la reprise des informations, surtout quand il s’agit d’informations sensibles. »
