Le Sénégal est loin du ratio de l’Oms qui est de 10 donneurs de sang pour 1000 habitants. A l’occasion de la Journée mondiale du don de sang, hier mardi 14 juin 2022, le Centre national de transfusion sanguine a fait plaidoyer pour combler le gap.
Il n’y a pas assez de donneurs de sang au Sénégal. Le pays est à 6 donneurs pour 1000 habitants sur un ratio de 10 donneurs pour 1000 habitants selon la norme de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (Oms). Thierno Lecompte Seck, président de l’association des donneurs a lancé le cri du cœur hier, à l’occasion de la célébration de la journée mondiale du don de sang.
« Nous nous préoccupons de la situation du Cnts (Centre national de transfusion sanguine) et des banques de santé dans les hôpitaux publics. Nonobstant la progression, le nombre de dons de sang qui est passé de 56 573 en 2011 à 101 804 en 2020 le Sénégal est à 6 donneurs pour 1000 habitants alors que la norme de l’Oms qui exige 10 donneurs pour 1000 habitants dans les pays pour assurer sa sécurité transfusionnelle », a d’emblée informé M. Seck.
Selon le président des donneurs, l’une des causes de ce retard est lié à l’insuffisance et l’éloignement des instituts de transfusion sanguine qui doivent être proches des populations afin de faciliter le déplacement. Il s’agit de l’un des facteurs bloquants pour les populations surtout à l’intérieur du pays. Le Sénégal compte un Cnts qui est chargé de la gestion technique de la pratique transfusionnelle, 24 banques de sang réparties dans les 14 régions de manière inégales. A cela on peut ajouter les 4 centres régionaux et un poste de transfusion sanguine en construction.
En listant les difficultés de la transfusion sanguine, Thierno Lecompte Seck soutient que l’autre handicap du Cnts est l’insuffisance de ces ressources financières. « Certes le budget alloué à la transfusion sanguine s’est accru de 2006 à 2021, il faut aussi que la transfusion sanguine soit entourée de toutes les précautions et dispositions sécuritaires et techniques. Avec le retrait de certains partenaires internationaux stratégiques, le Cnts rencontre des difficultés dans l’exécution de ses activités pour accompagner les banques de sang », a fait savoir le donneur.
112 000 dons de sang en 2021 pour des besoins estimés à 170 000
A son avis, le financement de la transfusion sanguine qui est un défi devrait être logé dans le Plan d’actions prioritaires/ajusté et accéléré (Pap2A) pour, d’une part combler le déficit des infrastructures de transfusion sanguine et, d’autre part la disponibilité des poches de sang. « C’est l’occasion de lancer un appel aux bonnes volontés et donneurs de soutenir la construction et l’équipement d’infrastructures de transfusion sanguine afin de contribuer au développement de la transfusion sanguine », a formulé M. Seck.
Venu présider la rencontre, Alassane Mbengue a indiqué que « le défi est grand puisque le Sénégal n’a prélevé que 112 000 dons de sang en 2021 pour des besoins estimés à 170 000. Vous voyez que le gap est encore important. Il faut le combler pour sauver le maximum de vies possibles ». Par conséquent, le secrétaire général du ministère de la Santé et de l’action sociale invite « les organisations publiques et privées à s’investir dans la sensibilisation et le recrutement de donneurs pour assurer l’autosuffisance en sang de notre pays ».
