Des excavations creusées de façon sauvage hantent le sommeil des habitants de Thicky, un village à six kilomètres de la commune de Diass. Au banc des accusés, les «Ciments du Sahel » à qui les populations reprochent le non-respect des normes environnementales. Sévèrement décriée, la cimenterie gagnerait aujourd’hui à revoir sa politique dans la zone.
La mort par noyade d’un jeune berger dans l’une des fosses géantes abandonnées par les «Ciments du Sahel » pose à nouveau le débat sur les préjudices causés par cette cimenterie aux populations de Diass et environs.
Porté disparu depuis dimanche dernier, le corps du jeune Mouhamadou Ba, âgé de 13 ans, a été finalement retrouvé hier dans la matinée dans l’une des excavations sauvages des «Ciments du Sahel». Natif d’un village environnant du nom de Semkedji, le jeune Sow était en classe de 6ème. Son troupeau a été retrouvé à 150 mètres environ du lac artificiel où il se baignait apparemment. Une fois le corps découvert, les populations de Thicky se sont dirigées en catastrophe sur les lieux. Ils n’ont pas manqué de se plaindre contre ces excavations sauvages de la concession de 200 hectares environ des «Ciments du Sahel » de Kirène.
A les en croire, tout ceci est le résultat de l’exploitation sauvage des ressources naturelles dans la commune de Diass. Le plus désolant, selon les habitants, c’est que la société n’a pas daigné mettre les pieds dans le village depuis l’annonce de la tragédie. « Aucun responsable de l’entreprise n’est venu s’enquérir de la situation », regrettent-ils dans une note parcourue par «L’AS » hier.
En extrayant l’argile et la latérite, la multinationale met en danger les animaux et les personnes. Des pratiques jugées criminelles par les populations de Thicky qui évoquent le non respect des normes environnementales. Pis, ils se désolent d’étouffantes poussières et pollutions latéritiques qui provoquent des maladies pulmonaires et détruisent des récoltes. Selon elles, la cimenterie est à l’origine d’innombrables abus sous le silence assourdissant et coupable de certains notables du village et de certaines autorités étatiques et locales.
«Des champs sont confisqués sans indemnisation. Il y a une délinquance minière qui ne dit pas son nom et un ‘’je-m’en-foutisme irrémissible’’ de la cimenterie », lit-on dans le communiqué d’un collectif des villageois parvenu à la rédaction. A en croire la note, la mairie de Diass ne peut rien contre cette société qu’elle a traduite, jusque-là en vain, devant les cours et tribunaux du Sénégal. Depuis 20 ans environ, l’entreprise exploite les mines de Thicky.
D’après les populations, elle avait promis de bitumer la route de trois kilomètres environ menant au village ; mais rien n’a été fait. «Cette multinationale tue à petit feu les habitants Thicky sous le regard complice de certaines autorités », se désolent-elles. Il faut relever par ailleurs que cette cimenterie a une capacité de production annuelle de six millions de tonnes. Même si elle mène beaucoup d’actions dans le domaine de l’éducation en dotant les écoles de la commune de Diass de fournitures et d’équipements scolaires, elle devrait réfléchir à respecter un peu plus les normes environnementales dans la zone
