Dans le cadre du suivi de la campagne horticole 2024-2025, le ministre de l’Agriculture, de la Souveraineté alimentaire et de l’Élevage, Dr. Mabouba Diagne, a effectué une visite de terrain dans la zone des Niayes, un bassin agricole clé pour la production horticole.
Cette visite a été l’occasion de réaffirmer l’engagement de l’État à soutenir un sous-secteur stratégique qui représente 28 % de la valeur ajoutée du secteur primaire.
Dans un post sur le soutien renforcé aux producteurs, le ministre indique que face à l’importance de l’horticulture dans l’économie agricole sénégalaise, l’État a alloué des subventions significatives pour assurer la disponibilité des intrants :
10 milliards FCFA dédiés aux semences de pomme de terre, permettant la mobilisation de 18 346 tonnes de semences et une production attendue de 245 000 tonnes.
9,374 milliards FCFA consacrés aux engrais horticoles, soit un quasi-doublement par rapport à la précédente campagne, pour améliorer les rendements.
Dr. Mabouba Diagne a également insisté sur l’importance de la digitalisation du système de distribution des semences et le renforcement des mécanismes de suivi, afin d’optimiser ces subventions.
Les défis et perspectives du secteur
Malgré ces avancées, plusieurs défis restent à relever, notamment :
_L’amélioration de la qualité des produits horticoles
_L’étalement de la production pour éviter les surplus saisonniers
_Le développement du stockage et de la transformation
_L’exploration des marchés d’exportation (CEDEAO, pays arabes, autres pays africains)
_Le renforcement des infrastructures de stockage frigorifique via des partenariats public-privé.

Lors de sa visite, le ministre a échangé avec des jeunes entrepreneurs agricoles, comme Ndeye Sokhna Gueye, ingénieure agronome exploitant 50 hectares, et Mbaye Ndiaye, importateur et producteur. Ces acteurs ont salué les efforts du gouvernement en faveur d’une agriculture plus performante et inclusive.
