Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?

In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral
reforms that the major parties look set to come together to support.

The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps
on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the
equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any
party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.

The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first place.

So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes –
and the extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.

The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be
made.

At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get
made – but you only find out the details of who
has given what to whom many months later,
well after elections are won and lost.

In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency and far less big money
being injected into campaigning by the wealthy.

Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.

Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’
and ‘a rort, not a reform’. 

They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.

I had to double check who was criticising what exactly
before even starting to write this column.

Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by the
virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united
crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.

More fool me.

The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a
growing cabal of crossbenchers.

It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply,
the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.

Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer

Another potential target of the laws is businessman and
Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator
Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)

The major parties have long complained about the
influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind
the scenes amongst the Teals. 

And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the
past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.

Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.

The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency
rules to take effect immediately, by the way.
It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next
election designed to catch the crossbench
out.

They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for
them.

Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine the
opposition want to go over the laws with a fine tooth comb.

As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor
to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the
unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years
to come.

But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed
laws implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.

They might even be able to offer something
worthwhile that could be incorporated in the package.

To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

It is 20/100, which can be simplified, if required.

The Australian government has issued a stern warning to horror fans
flocking to cinemas to see the ultra-violent slasher film Terrifier 3,
cautioning audiences about its extreme content and disturbing themes.

as it continues the blood-soaked saga of Art the Clown with more gruesome, stomach-churning scenes.

The movie has broken box office records as horror enthusiasts are
lured in by the film’s reputation for intense violence and shock value.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts has
warned Australian audiences to prepare for scenes of graphic violence, dismemberment and disturbing themes that go well beyond typical horror fare.

The film includes brutal depictions of murder using a variety of weapons, from chainsaws
to axes and guns, resulting in explicit injury detail and copious amounts of blood.

The warning also highlights that the movie
portrays self-harm, cannibalism, animal cruelty and violence involving children, pushing the
boundaries of what the most hardened horror fans has seen before.

One of the film’s more controversial moments includes a scene of implied masturbation coupled with self-harm, along

The Terrifier franchise, which began in 2016, quickly gained a cult
following due to its extreme violence and over-the-top death scenes.

The first film, which saw Art the Clown mutilate
a victim with a hacksaw, shocked audiences with its brutal kill sequences.

The sequel, Terrifier 2, went viral last year after reports emerged that viewers were
fainting and vomiting in cinemas due to its graphic content.

Now, with Terrifier 3, Leone has doubled down on the carnage, taking the gore to new,
unsettling levels.

Despite Australia’s strict film censorship laws, Terrifier 3 was approved for theatrical release
with a strong warning attached.

The film’s notoriety has only heightened its appeal to horror fans,
who continue to fill cinemas across the country.

Earlier this month, two people fainted and fled for the exit
when it hit a Perth cinema for early previews.

According to multiple eye witness accounts, one young woman badly injured herself after she fell down the cinema stairs while fleeing the movie theatre.

‘This is going to sound made up and I promise
you it’s not,’ Australian horror film critic Emma Clarke began her review of David
Leone’s controversial new horror-slasher.

The Rotten Tomatoes verified critic said two people fainted
right in front of her during the screening she attended at Innaloo Cinemas in Perth over the weekend.

The first fainted during the opening scene,
she said in her film review shared to YouTube, and the second nearer to the end of the
two-house spectacle.

‘Can you tell me… why did two people feint right in front of me during that film?’ she said.

‘Both trying to run down the stairs to get to the bathrooms because they felt so queasy.’

The horror film fanatic said she spoke to both people
and tried to assist them because she was seated directly
behind them.

The first was a man, who left with a friend who came to check on him,
and second Australian victim was a young woman.

‘This poor girl gashed her head open as she fell down the stairs, I felt so bad for her.
I went and checked on her afterwards,’ Clarke claimed.

‘She did get help. She was with her friend. It really shook me up too.
It actually took me out of the film for the moment.’

The reviewer, who has been sharing her thoughts on scary movies for the
past four years, said she has never seen audience members have such a visceral reaction to
a film.

Many cinema-goers in Sydney and Melbourne reportedly

Clarke described the third installment of Leone’s series — which is set to open nationally on Thursday, October 11 — as
‘ fun, intense, gory, disturbed, and over the top.’

‘I’m not used to horror actually hurting people, so that was a really strange experience,’
she said.

‘Before anyone says they’re paid actors, I saw the girl and she had injuries.

They were both very young people. I feel really awful about it to
be honest.’

‘It was a very scary moment trying to help them out.’

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made.

‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there
was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels.
This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind
of message. Male rage! Nihilism! All these think pieces.

and I would turn to one of them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, ‘What
the f*** is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This
is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.’

‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is
the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable.

That’s how terrible it is.’

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its release
last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.

The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic
box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections,
and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and
its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a
musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as people are making it out
to be. I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as
a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were
a lot of fun.’

It comes after lead star Lady Gaga was left ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à
Deux, with the singer’s team now keen to quickly push out other projects
to help distract from the furor over the film, insiders claim

But despite the lacklustre reception from fans, a second source claimed she is not
letting it deter her from returning to the big screen, with the singer said to be eyeing
up a Quentin Tarantino movie.

‘She is disappointed that Joker is pretty much
a bomb,’ they said. 

‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar
nomination, especially since the first film was
such a success and Joaquin won an Oscar.

‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s
next and final film. Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition. 

‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with
him once a script is presented, it is a bucket list moment for her to
be involved.’

Joaquin Phoenix and his fiancée Rooney Mara put on unified front when they
arrived in Venice, Italy, on Monday.

The 49-year-old Napoleon star and the 39-year-old Social Network actress pictured in the tourist destination’s airport ahead of the high-profile Venice Film Festival.

They were spotted getting around the picturesque city in one of its iconic water taxis.

Joaquin was set to make a major appearance ahead of the
premiere of his dark comic book film Joker: Folie à Deux.

Fans and critics are getting a look at the film after the actor made himself persona non grata among independent
filmmakers when he dropped out of acclaimed director Todd Haynes’ untitled gay romance just
five days before production was to begin.

Joaquin Phoenix, 49, and his fiancée Rooney Mara, 39, put on unified front when they arrived in Venice, Italy, on Monday.

The two were set to attend the Venice Film Festival, where Phoenix’s highly anticipated sequel Joker: Folie à Deux is premiering

The couple appeared to be joined by their youngest child, whose name has not yet been publicly revealed.

Rooney held the little one close to her in a striped blanket that was wrapped around her shoulders.

The loved-up couple were dressed casually for their
arrival in Venice.

Joaquin looked cool and relaxed in a plain black T-shirt that highlighted his toned
arms, which he paired with black track pants rolled up at the hems.

He matched them with tall black socks and low-key
gray sneakers.

The Academy Award winner wore his graying hair in a messy mop contrasting his black glasses, and he also
had on a black backpack.

Rooney had on a black blouse and a long black jacket while wrapping her blanket around her torso over it.

She kept things simple with high-waisted blue jeans and black flats.

Her brunette locks were tied back in a bun, and she covered
up with black oval-shaped sunglasses. 

The Her costars have been together since 2016, and they share two
young children together.

They welcomed their first child, River — named after Joaquin’s late brother River Phoenix — in August of 2020, and Rooney gave birth to their second child in June of this
year, but few details have been revealed about the younger child. 

Joaquin was focusing on his likely blockbuster Joker: Folie à Deux
following the controversy over his departure from an indie romance drama just five
days before it was to begin production.

The shocking move left director Todd Haynes and indie superproducer Christine Vachon scrambling to find a replacement for the lead role,
which was ultimately unsuccessful due to the extraordinarily short time before filming. 

Vachon later called the experience a ‘nightmare,’ but she defended the film from critics who claimed only a gay actor should have been cast in Phoenix’s role.

She reminded the writers of rude social media comments that Phoenix was
the person who brought the project to her and Haynes, meaning he couldn’t be separated
from the film.

Vachon also defended her production company’s record of
hiring actors in the LGBTQ community, and she said that the criticism was only making the ‘terrible situation even worse.’

Phoenix and Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez,
31, were to play onscreen lovers in the 1930s-set film, which was said to include ‘explicit sexual content.’

However, others disputed that characterization and noted that he played a
major role in getting the film into production in the first place.

Phoenix has reportedly suffered from cold feet on multiple previous projects
that he ultimately continued with.

Joker: Folie À Deux is heading to streaming, just weeks after its theatrical release. 

The movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, will be available to rent from home
starting October 29, in an effort to recoup some of Warner Bros.
investment into the film, as per Variety.

The musical, which bombed at the box office, is ‘poised to lose at least $150 million to $200 million in its theatrical run’ according to the publication.

The movie studio spent about $200 million to produce the film and about $100
million on marketing and distribution, according to the report.

It would need to gross about $450 million at the box office to break even — when factoring in the cut taken by theaters — though Warner Bros.
sources claim the number is $375 million.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous « insiders »
or « rival executives » are grossly wrong and continues a trend where rumor is
reported as fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release,
included with this week’s opening in China, and will continue to earn revenue throughout its home
viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis
has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after
two weeks of release.

In comparison, the first Joker grossed $96.2 million domestically and
$248.4 million globally after three days of release.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film was considered a surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures, yet ended up being slammed by critics and failed to ignite at
the box office. 

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic
book movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening night. 

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as
‘bleak’ and ‘disappointing’ — officially released in theaters on Friday, October 4.

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel,
which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the

and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with director Todd Phillips’ process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month. 

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film
does not include a DC Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel,
while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and
Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.

Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no
to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy
rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut
screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter:
‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after
WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and was
‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower
price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per
cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared:
‘The one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re
going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix
at the LA premiere September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film
at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported
the decision to bring the film to Venice. 

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan. 

A swanky London steakhouse is facing backlash over its introduction of charges for tablecloths and napkins.

Diners at the London Steakhouse restaurant, which was opened by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White in 2008, are now
expected to fork out an additional cover of £1.50 per person.

The restaurant, located near Liverpool Street train station, has stated that this will be a fixed fee ‘to cover the cost of table linen and napkins’, with a discretionary service charge of 9.5 per cent also appearing on bills.

Industry experts have cautioned though that this could be
just the start of restaurants seeking more ‘innovative’ ways to raise additional revenue from customers.

Off the back of the government’s autumn budget which saw both
the minimum wage and national insurance rates increase, restauranteurs have been warning that prices
must rise for them to be able to foot the bill.

From April, the national minimum wage will increase by 6.7 per cent to
£12.21 per hour, with employer’s NI charges to jump by 1.2 per cent. 

Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch has
previously claimed the national minimum wage is detrimental
to British businesses, and told this year’s Tory conference that it was ‘over-burdening’ many small enterprises.

The London Steakhouse appears to be reacting proactively to its impending expenditure increases, through both the tablecloth and napkin fee along with a host
of other charges.

The charges for the linen are displayed on the restaurant’s à la carte menu,
with the set menus seeing additional charges such as a £1 head cover fee.

A 12.5 per cent service charge is also added to set menu bills,
as the self-proclaimed ‘linen-topped table dining’ establishment seemingly seeks more ways to charge patrons.

The cover charge concept is one which is standard
practice in many places around Europe, particularly in Italy where the ‘coperto’ charge covers
table linen and bread.

Cover charges are becoming ever more prevalent in the UK, with Harrdos also recently jumping on the trend and implementing a £1
levy at its London eateries.

Other charges laid out on the London Steakhouse’s website include a £10 fee for booking certain set
menus over two days in advance.

This fee is not considered as a deposit by the restaurant and is not credited from your
final bill, but rather a charge simply allowing you to make your reservation. 

Consumer specialist Jane Hawkes told the Telegraph that the introduction of such fees
is unfair on diners and that customers should be made to feel valued by businesses, rather than ‘bamboozled’.

One potential unintended consequence of these
fee introductions is that patrons will feel less obliged to pay service charges or leave behind tips.

Despite new legislation coming into effect in October which ensures staff receive equal distribution of tips, industry expert
Ms Hawkes says that this may prove to be redundant if fee gouging persists. 

The London Steakhouse restaurant has been approached
