Les artistes sénégalais ont glané, en 2024, des récompenses un peu partout dans le monde dans plusieurs disciplines dont le cinéma qui a valu au Sénégal l’Ours d’or de la 74e Berlinale (Festival international du film de Berlin en Allemagne) le 26 février avec le long métrage ‘’Dahomey’’ de la réalisatrice franco-sénégalaise Mati Diop.
Le film de Mati Diop, entre fiction et documentaire, retrace le voyage de trésors royaux d’Abomey, pris lors de la colonisation du Bénin et restitués par l’Etat français à leur pays d’origine.
Le Dahomey, ancien royaume africain, est situé sur l’actuel Bénin, a reçu, dans le cadre de la restitution du patrimoine africain initiée par le président français, Emmanuel Macron, les 26 pièces d’arts sacrés pillés dans des palais royaux lors de l’invasion des troupes coloniales françaises en 1892.
En novembre 2021, vingt-six trésors royaux du Dahomey quittent Paris pour être rapatriés vers leur terre d’origine, le Bénin.
Le film de Mati Diop a remporté l’Ours d’or de la 74e Berlinale (Festival international du film de Berlin en Allemagne).
Après ce sacre, il a été projeté en mai au Sénégal et au Bénin.
Le 7 art sénégalais a aussi été récompensé le 21 décembre dernier aux 35ème édition des Journées cinématographiques de Carthage où le film ‘’Demba’’ de Mamadou Dia a décroché le tanit de bronze dans la catégorie long métrage fiction.
Le film explore le deuil, la résilience, la santé mentale et les tabous culturels liés à l’expression des émotions.
Le documentariste Ousmane William Mbaye a reçu une mention spéciale du jury pour son film ‘’Ndar saga Waalo’’, une production sortie en février et et qui dresse un portrait ‘’riche et complexe’’ de Ndar, le nom originel de la ville de Saint-Louis (nord), la première capitale du Sénégal bercée entre un riche passé colonial et un présent plein de questionnements sur l’avenir et la meilleure manière de préserver un héritage qui se veut universel..
Côté musique, le chanteur et compositeur sénégalais Youssou Ndour a été élevé le 8 juillet au rang de docteur honoris causa par l’université Berklee Valencia en Espagne.
Réagissant à cette distinction, il a déclaré: »Recevoir un titre de docteur Honoris Causa dans cette prestigieuse institution est une reconnaissance qui me touche profondément. C’est un symbole fort qui me rappelle que la musique, au-delà des frontières, est une langue universelle capable de changer le monde ».
