La célébration de la fête de l’indépendance a été marquée à Matam par une levée des couleurs aux abords du fleuve Sénégal au niveau du jardin public situé en face de la résidence du gouverneur de la région. Mohamed Moctar Watt, le chef de l’exécutif régional, dans sa prise de parole, a profité de la cérémonie pour féliciter le nouveau président de la République et lui renouveler son engagement et sa loyauté à travailler pour le développement des politiques publiques dans la région.
«Au nom de l’ensemble des populations de la région de Matam et en mon nom propre, je formule mes meilleurs vœux de réussite au Président de la République et également des prières pour que le Tout-Puissant lui accorde la force et la clairvoyance de conduire à bon port le navire Sénégal (…).
Nous savons que le Président de la République est suffisamment engagé pour véritablement réussir sa mission à la tête du pays, sa réussite sera une œuvre nationale, c’est pourquoi la région de Matam ne dérogera pas à cette obligation de l’accompagner afin qu’il puisse réussir sa mission à la tête de notre pays», a déclaré le gouverneur.
Relevant l’importance de la cérémonie, M. Watt annonce que le choix de célébrer le 64ème anniversaire de notre souveraineté dans la sobriété, n’enlève en rien son caractère solennel à cause de son importance car, « il s’agit à l’occasion de célébrer l’anniversaire au cours duquel, nous avons rompu les liens de la dépendance, les liens de la servitude mais également les liens de soumission qui nous liaient à une puissance coloniale à savoir la France».
Le thème inspirant, retenu cette année : «Les forces armées au cœur de la cohésion nationale», a servi d’occasion au gouverneur de la région de rendre un vibrant hommage aux hommes, aux femmes à l’ensemble de nos compatriotes et de nos concitoyens qui ont fait le choix du port des armes et du port de l’uniforme pour défendre notre pays, pour défendre notre intégrité et notre souveraineté.
Selon le chef de l’exécutif régional, «l’armée est une institution qui constitue un creuset dans lequel on retrouve l’ensemble des composantes de notre population, parce qu’au niveau des forces armées, il ne serait y avoir point de discrimination et on ne peut pas reconnaître à travers l’uniforme, l’appartenance ethnique et l’appartenance confessionnelle »…
Ajoutant que : «Sous ce rapport, l’armée joue un rôle extrêmement important, même si elle ambitionne de se professionnaliser, cela n’enlève en rien que la circonscription est toujours de mise et qu’à travers également cette opération, c’est toujours une opportunité pour pouvoir former une bonne partie de nos concitoyens aux valeurs qui sont les valeurs de la République».
La région de Matam constitue un exemple à travers ce thème
S’exprimant lors de la cérémonie de levée des couleurs organisée à l’occasion de la célébration du 64ème anniversaire de l’accession du Sénégal à la souveraineté internationale, le gouverneur a déclaré que «la région de Matam constitue un exemple à travers le thème de cette année axé sur ‘les forces armées au cœur de la cohésion nationale’. «La fête traditionnelle organisée par le 3ème bataillon établi au camp militaire de Ourossogui, nous gratifie chaque année d’un plateau culturel à travers lequel, on distingue l’ensemble des expressions culturelles des ethnies de notre pays».
C’est là, selon lui, «une illustration de la forte clairvoyance de ces hommes et de ces femmes qui ont fait le choix du port des armes, et de l’uniforme, conscients de leurs origines diverses, n’ont qu’un seul but et une finalité, à savoir : défendre notre pays, et être au service de la République et du citoyen», a fait savoir le chef de l’exécutif régional.
