Pour célébrer le partenariat artistique et culturel durable entre les États-Unis et le Sénégal, l’ambassadeur des États-Unis à Dakar, Michael Raynor, a dévoilé, le 5 décembre 2023, une exposition d’art unique à sa résidence, composée de treize œuvres d’artistes américains et sénégalais.
Selon un communiqué de presse, la collection à la résidence de l’ambassadeur Raynor présente une sélection des œuvres d’art de sept artistes américains de renom : Nanette Carter, Wesley Clark, Moses Hamborg, Miki Rodriguez, Felandus Thames, Kehinde Wiley et Modou Dieng Yacine.
L’exposition comprend également des œuvres d’art de six célèbres artistes sénégalais : Ousmane Niang, Soly Cissé, Kiné Aw, Seyni Awa Camara, Serigne Ibrahima Dièye et Moussa Traoré. « Les œuvres d’art ne sont pas seulement visuellement impressionnantes. Elles véhiculent également des messages profonds touchant aux droits de l’homme, à la préservation culturelle et à la justice sociale », précise-t-on.
L’exposition fait partie du programme Art in Embassies (Aie) du Département d’État américain.
Créé en 1963, l’Aie promeut les échanges culturels à travers des expositions temporaires et permanentes, des programmes d’artistes et des publications. L’engagement de l’AIE à présenter l’art contemporain des États-Unis et des pays hôtes offre au public international un aperçu de la riche tapisserie de l’expression artistique et de la diversité culturelle aux États-Unis et au-delà.
« Elles vont rester exposées dans la résidence pendant la durée de mon séjour à Dakar, au cours duquel des milliers de visiteurs – du Sénégal, des États-Unis, et d’ailleurs – ont déjà eu, et continueront d’avoir, le privilège de les découvrir », a déclaré M. Raynor.
La cérémonie a réuni des représentants du Ministère de la Culture et du Patrimoine historique, de la communauté artistique et du corps diplomatique du Sénégal.
L’ambassadeur Raynor a saisi l’opportunité pour exprimer son immense plaisir que le Ministère de la Culture et du Patrimoine historique du Sénégal ait choisi les États-Unis comme invité d’honneur de la Biennale de Dakar 2024.
« Nous sommes très honorés de cette invitation, que nous avons acceptée avec plaisir, et nous nous réjouissons de partager avec vous tous, dans les jours à venir, nos programmes de participation à la Biennale, » a dit l’ambassadeur.
