Au Sénégal, plusieurs hôpitaux publics ne sont pas dotés de suffisamment d’oxygène. C’est du moins ce qu’a estimé la directrice générale des établissements de santé qui animait, hier, un point presse conjoint avec le représentant résident de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (Oms) au Sénégal. Le Dr Fatou Mbaye Sylla reconnait que « le gap à combler sur l’oxygénation entre des structures de santé, est énorme. »
Toutefois, elle précise que la situation de l’oxygénation au Sénégal est assez satisfaisante. « Nous sommes dans le processus de combler ce fossé. Tout le monde sait que l’oxygène est devenu un médicament essentiel. La pandémie de la Covid- 19 l’a largement prouvé.
En outre, l’oxygène est utilisé dans des services essentiels que sont les blocs opératoires, la réanimation, la pédiatrie, les urgences, la néonatalogie et la maternité qui sont les services extrêmement sensibles », ex- plique Dr Fatou Mbaye Sylla.
Et de poursuivre : « Actuellement, il n’y a qu’une vingtaine de structures de santé de référence qui sont dotées d’oxygène. Nous sommes en train d’évaluer les gaps. Chaque année, dans le budget de la santé référence, au moins 3 milliards francs Cfa sont mis à disposition pour la maintenance des équipements en oxygène médical. »
Au cours de ce point de presse, le représentant de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (Oms) affirme que des pays comme le Sénégal doivent trouver des stratégies pour faire parvenir l’oxygène dans toutes les structures de santé.
« Nous devons élaborer un modèle de déploiement na- tional pour l’oxygénothérapie, une composante vitale de notre arsenal thérapeutique contre les conditions critiques telles que l’hypoxémie et l’insuffisance respiratoire.
Ces conditions, si elles ne sont pas traitées efficacement, peuvent conduire à des conséquences tragiques, y compris l’asphyxie ou la mort », prévient le Dr Jean Marie Vianny Yaméogo.
