La Faculté des lettres et sciences humaines (Flsh) de l’université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar a rendu un vibrant hommage à Sembène Ousmane, l’illustre écrivain et cinéaste sénégalais. Pour marquer cette commémoration, l’artiste plasticien Abdoulaye Diallo, «Le berger de l’île de Ngor», a offert un tableau intitulé «Sembène Ousmane, le baobab» à la Flsh dont le nouveau bâtiment porte désormais le nom du cinéaste.
Le nouveau bâtiment de la Faculté des lettres et sciences humaines de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (Ucad) porte désormais le nom de Sembène Ousmane, l’illustre écrivain et cinéaste sénégalais dont l’héritage culturel continue de marquer les esprits. Evidemment, en choisissant de rendre hommage à Sembène Ousmane, l’université célèbre non seulement un individu, mais aussi un héritage artistique et intellectuel qui transcende les frontières nationales et les disciplines artistiques.
Ce geste significatif s’inscrit dans le cadre d’un des programmes de l’association Mbokkeel gi, intitulé «l’art dans l’œuvre de Sembène Ousmane : point de vue et contribution à une prise de position multiforme et complémentaire».
Et la décision prise par l’Assemblée de la Faculté des lettres le 18 janvier 2024, de donner le nom de Sembène Ousmane au nouveau bâtiment de la Faculté, illustre également l’importance et l’influence durable de son travail dans les domaines de la littérature et du cinéma. Pour marquer cette commémoration, l’artiste plasticien Abdoulaye Diallo, «Le berger de l’île de Ngor», a offert un tableau intitulé «Sembène Ousmane, le baobab».
Dans une allocution chargée d’émotion, Abdoulaye Diallo a souligné l’importance de rendre hommage à un homme dont l’œuvre transcende les frontières et continue d’inspirer les générations futures.
«Cet honneur exceptionnel, d’accepter cette donation d’une œuvre d’art : Sembène Ousmane, le baobab, m’impose deux devoirs : un devoir de gratitude et un devoir de persévérance dans l’accomplissement de mon art», a-t-il déclaré, lors de la cérémonie de remise de ce magnifique tableau à la salle du conseil de ladite faculté.
L’artiste Abdoulaye Diallo a mis en avant le rôle essentiel de Sembène Ousmane dans la promotion de la culture africaine à travers ses écrits et films.
«Nous sommes ici réunis pour rendre hommage à Sembène Ousmane, un homme purifié de l’intérieur, capable d’entrer en communion totale avec la sphère infinie de l’univers, et y effectuer une randonnée spirituelle. Tout dans ses pensées, films et écrits, traduit une aspiration et une conviction profondes qui forgent une manière d’être.
Rendre hommage à Sembène Ousmane, c’est aussi évoquer la librairie Sankoré, pour la promotion du livre, et son combat pour la promotion des langues nationales», a-t-il souligné, rappelant l’engagement indéfectible de Sembène Ousmane en faveur de la valorisation de l’identité africaine.
D’après «Le berger de l’île de Ngor», le grand public considère, généralement, l’œuvre de Sembène Ousmane comme «un long ruban qui expose les tares des différentes composantes de la société africaine dans son histoire et comme une rencontre avec l’autre dans ses visées funestes : une invitation à l’introspection, à la critique, à la rencontre fructueuse et mutuellement avantageuse, sans exploitation de l’autre, une invitation donc à l’échange et à la découverte».
Plaidoyer pour l’art cinématographique
Dans son discours, Abdoulaye Diallo a également évoqué l’avenir de l’enseignement des arts à l’université, avec une emphase particulière sur la nécessité de promouvoir l’excellence et l’innovation dans ce domaine. En écho, le professeur Maguèye Kassé, président de l’Association Sembène Ousmane, a salué cette initiative de la Flsh.
«C’est donc dire que le tableau offert à la Faculté des lettres permet à tous ceux qui le contempleront de se poser des questions utiles, mémorielles et prospectives dans la symbolique du baobab qui plonge ses racines au plus profond de la terre, en s’ouvrant au soleil qui doit irradier et fructifier cet humus de la terre africaine pour donner les fleurs attendues depuis des siècles d’exploitation de nos terroirs, de nos espaces», a dit Pr Maguèye Kassé, critique d’art et commissaire permanent de l’artiste «Le berger de l’île de Ngor».
