Mais il se pourrait que Microsoft bouleverse bientôt cette habitude. En effet, la dernière build du canal Dev de Windows 11 introduit pour la première fois une fonctionnalité baptisée « hot patching ». On vous explique.
Si vous utilisez Windows depuis plusieurs années, vous vous êtes certainement habitué à ce que le système d’exploitation vous demande toujours au pire moment de redémarrer votre PC pour terminer l’installation d’une mise à jour. Si votre machine est relativement performante, le redémarrage ne prend pas plus de quelques secondes. Mais dans le cas contraire, la chose peut rapidement devenir très agaçante.
Bonne nouvelle : Windows 11 pourrait résoudre ce problème dès cette année.
En effet, nos confrères de Windows Central ont repéré une nouveauté discrète dans la dernière build de Windows 11 dans le canal Dev qui pourrait bien révolutionner une habitude vieille de plusieurs années.
Cette nouveauté, c’est le « hot patching ». Si vous possédez une Xbox, ce nom vous est peut-être déjà familier. Concrètement, il s’agit d’installer une mise à jour directement dans le code des processus en cours, ce qui évite d’avoir à redémarrer le PC.

Selon les sources de Windows Central, les mises à jour à hot patching concerneront uniquement les mises à jour mensuelles de sécurité. Autrement dit, en dehors des Patch Tuesday, les mises à jour plus importantes nécessiteront toujours un redémarrage du PC pour se terminer.
Ce qui n’arrivera donc que quelques fois dans l’année, ce qui est une nette amélioration par rapport à la situation actuelle.
Cette fonctionnalité devrait être déployée auprès du grand public dès cette année, via la mise à jour 24H2. Les PC sous ARM64 devront attendre l’année prochaine.
Quoiqu’il en soit, le hot patching va bouleverser nos habitudes en matière de mise à jour, du moins sur PC.
Les smartphones Android, eux, proposent déjà un avantage similaire avec les mises à jour rapides, qui permettent de continuer à utiliser son appareil durant le processus.
