La carrière sportive du meneur américano-sénégalais, Pierria Henry, est sérieusement compromise avec l’annonce d’une suspension de quatre ans infligée par la FIBA à la suite d’un contrôle anti-dopage.
Depuis janvier 2023, le basketteur n’a pas pu fouler les parquets en raison de cette enquête. La décision de la FIBA, rendue publique mercredi, reproche à Henry «l’utilisation ou la tentative d’utilisation d’une substance ou d’une méthode interdite » (article 2.2 du règlement antidopage).
Bien que la suspension soit déjà partiellement purgée par Pierria Henry, le club de Baskonia avait réagi en suspendant temporairement le contrat du joueur dès la révélation de l’infraction lors du contrôle antidopage en janvier 2023.
Cette suspension de quatre ans signifie que Pierria Henry ne pourra pas envisager un retour à la compétition avant le 13 janvier 2027, posant des interrogations sur l’avenir de sa carrière alors qu’il approche les 34 ans à la fin de sa période de suspension.
Il est à rappeler que Pierria Henry, naturalisé sénégalais en 2021, avait représenté les Lions du ballon orange à l’AfroBasket 2021 à Kigali, où l’équipe s’était classée troisième après une défaite en demi-finale contre la Côte d’Ivoire.
