Après la prolongation du mandat de Macky Sall à la tête du Sénégal par les députés de Benno bokk yaakaar, les réactions s’enchaînent. Le président de la Commission des relations étrangères au Sénat américain, Ben Cardin, a publié une déclaration.
«Le retard de l’élection présidentielle au Sénégal place le pays sur une voie dangereuse vers la dictature, et ne doit pas être toléré», a affirmé d’emblée le Sénateur américain.
Pour Ben Cardin, «le mépris flagrant du Président Macky Sall pour la Constitution sénégalaise et son manque de respect pour le soutien du Peuple sénégalais à la démocratie sapent des décennies de progrès depuis l’indépendance dans ce qui était autrefois considéré comme l’une des démocraties les plus fiables et les plus dynamiques d’Afrique».
Fort de ce constat, le Sénateur termine sa déclaration en disant ceci : «Le Président Sall doit annuler cette décision imprudente et veiller à ce que l’élection ait lieu avant la fin de son mandat constitutionnel.»
