Peu adepte à l’idée à ses débuts avec la sélection, Aliou Cissé prend désormais l’habitude de lancer des joueurs âgés au maximum 21 ans. Les débuts de Mika Faye, Seydou Sano et Habib Diarra confirment cette tendance.
C’est très loin des bases nationales qu’Aliou Cissé a entamé une nouvelle cure de rajeunissement des Lions. Pour la première fois depuis la prise de fonction du sélectionneur sur le banc, trois joueurs ont effectué leurs débuts en sélection au cours d’un même match.
Mikayil Ngor Faye (19 ans), Seydou Sano (19 ans) et Habib Diarra (20 ans) ont été les privilégiés, ce vendredi 22 mars à Amiens, face au Gabon, un adversaire battu 3-0 en amical.

Ce qui était assez rare au cours des premières années du règne d’Aliou Cissé devient alors une habitude. Si son image conservatrice ne s’effrite pas pour autant, l’ancien défenseur adopte le renouvellement progressif.
Depuis 2015, le tacticien a lancé la carrière de 18 joueurs âgés d’au maximum 21 ans. Le premier, c’est évidemment Keïta Baldé Diao, qui a débuté à l’âge de 21 ans et 18 jours, lors d’une victoire 2-0 contre le Niger, en mars 2016.
Un peu plus jeune que l’ancien attaquant de la Lazio et de l’AS Monaco, Ismaïla Sarr, alors âgé de 18 ans, 6 mois et 9 jours, a été lancé en septembre 2016, contre la Namibie.
Quelques mois plus tard, c’est Moussa Wagué (18 ans, 5 mois, 9 jours) qui faisait ses débuts avec les Lions face au Nigeria. Suivront des joueurs comme Adama Mbengue (21 ans, 10 mois, 16 jours), Assane Dioussé (20 ans, 1 mois, 25 jours), Krepin Diatta (20 ans, 26 jours).
Mais c’est à partir de l’année 2020 qu’Aliou Cissé a véritablement pris l’habitude de lancer des «U21». Franck Elimine Kanouté peut en témoigner.
L’ancien milieu de terrain du Cercle Bruges, actuellement dans le club serbe du Partizan, a effectué ses débuts à 21 ans, 11 mois, 2 jours contre la Guinée-Bissau, en novembre 2020. Aujourd’hui, tout le monde se rappelle des débuts de Pape Matar Sarr, Abdallah Sima ou encore Bamba Dieng.
