L’érosion côtière est bel et bien une réalité au Sénégal. Elle est devenue un phénomène récurrent au 21e siècle. Assurément, des villages et villes côtières sont menacés par cette calamité naturelle. Mbao et Thiaroye-Sur-Mer, deux vieux villages lébous situés dans la périphérie du département de Pikine en portent les stigmates. Depuis plusieurs années, la grande bleue avance obstinément et hante le sommeil des habitants de ces localités.
Mbaye Sarr, un pêcheur septuagénaire regrette que l’érosion côtière ait effacé toute une manne de souvenirs de son royaume d’enfance. “L’avancée de la mer est une menace sérieuse. J’ai vécu presque sept décennies ici et je peux vous le garantir, l’État du Sénégal doit mettre en place des digues de protection pour protéger les populations de Mbao. C’est un danger rampant à éviter, il faut qu’il agisse le plus vite possible. Notre terrain de football se trouvait à 50 mètres, maintenant, il est englouti par les eaux maritimes. Si rien n’est fait d’ici peu, Mbao village risque de disparaître”, alerte-t-il.
Face à cette situation alarmante aux conséquences néfastes, des mouvements de protection de l’environnement se sont mis debout pour dénoncer le danger qui guette leur localité. La psychose s’installe chez les populations. Ces dernières estiment que l’ex-ministre de l’Environnement Abdou Karim Sall n’a pas respecté sa promesse faite au moment où une houle dangereuse frappait le village. Elles en imputent la responsabilité à celui qui est devenu maire de Mbao. “A l’époque, l’ex ministre de l’Environnement Abdou Karim Sall avait promis de travailler sur un projet. Mais jusqu’ici on n’a rien vu. Il y a de cela trois à quatre ans, quand la houle avait fait des ravages à Mbao, l’ancien chef du gouvernement Mouhamed Boun Abdallah Diop était venu ici pour s’enquérir de la situation mais en vain. Nos problèmes perdurent. C’est pas sérieux “, se désole André Coly, riverain.
Pour se protéger de l’avancée de la mer, les populations de Mbao village et Thiaroye-Sur-Mer demandent leur part des fonds d’adaptation au réchauffement climatique. Ainsi, elles réclament des digues de protection afin de lutter efficacement contre l’érosion côtière qui gangrène les zones côtières.
