De 10 mille hectares en 2022, les producteurs de maïs veulent passer à 217 mille hectares emblavés à la prochaine campagne agricole, afin de renforcer drastiquement les productions de maïs.
– Pour s’enquérir de l’état d’avancement des cultures de maïs, les membres de l’Interprofession maïs (I-maïs) ont effectué une visite au champ-test de production semences de qualité, sis dans l’arrondissement de Koussanar, dans la région de Tambacounda. A l’issue de la tournée, les responsables de la filière ont témoigné de leur satisfaction. Les cultures se portent bien et les récoltes sont prometteuses. Les épis sont bien développés, ce qui augure de très bonnes productions, s’est félicité Papa Banda Dièye, président national des producteurs de maïs. Avant d’indiquer que pour cette campagne, quelque 10 mille hectares sont emblavés.
Il est ainsi attendu des productions de l’ordre de 50 mille tonnes. Car le rendement par ha est projeté à au moins 5 tonnes. Des prévisions très en deçà des attentes des industriels nationaux. Car, selon Michel Ngor Diouf, leur représentant, leur besoin en maïs est estimé à 600 000 tonnes. Des efforts restent alors à faire pour couvrir ce besoin, relève-t-il. C’est pourquoi d’ailleurs, l’Interprofession envisage d’augmenter très sensiblement les emblavures. L’année à venir, annonce la présidente, Nimna Diayté, «nous envisageons d’emblaver 217 mille ha de maïs pour mieux booster les productions. Déjà, nous sommes rassurés quant aux problèmes de l’écoulement des productions.
Tout ce qui va être produit sera vendu sans gros soucis. Ce qui fait que l’Etat doit mieux accompagner la filière pour qu’on puisse non seulement contribuer à la sécurité alimentaire des personnes, mais aussi fournir les industriels. Cela aura un réel impact sur l’économie nationale, car contribuant à diminuer le flux important des importations».
Revenant sur leurs tournées, les membres de l’Interprofession maïs se disent très satisfaits de l’évolution des cultures. «Ce que nous avons vu dans le Sine et le Saloum et dans la région de Tambacounda nous rassure à plus d’un titre», a déclaré Nimna Diayté, présidente de l’Interprofession maïs (I-maïs). Et de plaider : «Il faut que l’Etat nous aide à booster les productions. Nous disposons de la terre, de l’eau et des bras. Il reste juste les intrants et les équipements. Et cela relève du domaine de l’Etat.»
A preuve, souligne-t-elle, dans toute la zone de Koussanar, «il n’y a que 2 tracteurs pour accompagner les producteurs. De toutes les filières, d’ailleurs. C’est très insuffisant. Nos ambitions et notre engagement dépassent de loin ce que l’Etat investit dans la filière. Certes, il est en train de faire des efforts, mais il reste beaucoup à faire». «Il y a tout pour développer la filière et rendre résilients ses acteurs. Nous avons l’eau, la terre et les hommes qu’il faut pour cultiver le maïs», assure Papa Banda Dièye. Mais, regrette Mme Diayté, la présidente d’I-maïs, «l’accompagnement de l’Etat fait défaut».
