Dans le cadre de la 3e fenêtre qualificative à la coupe du monde de basket 2023, l’équipe nationale du Sénégal a quitté Dakar, hier nuit, direction Alexandrie. Les joueurs vont faire Dakar – Casablanca, Casa – Istanbul et Istanbul – Alexandrie. Cependant, on apprend que les joueurs sont actuellement bloqués à l’aéroport d’Istanbul pour des problèmes de visa. Aux dernières nouvelles, ils ont pu finalement embarquer.
Par ailleurs, Alexandrie et le Caire ont accueilli de nombreuses compétitions de FIBA Afrique au cours de ces dernières années, mais seule l’une des deux villes sera l’hôte de la prochaine fenêtre qualificative qui aura lieu du 1 au 3 juillet 2022. Alexandrie a organisé le premier tour du Groupe E des Éliminatoires du FIBA AfroBasket 2021.
Seules deux équipes (Côte d’Ivoire et Soudan du Sud) sont pour l’instant toujours invaincues avant la troisième fenêtre des Éliminatoires Zone Afrique de la Coupe du Monde FIBA 2023, qui marquera la fin du premier tour. Selon la Fiba, les équipes qui termineront aux trois premières places des Groupes A, B, C et D se qualifieront pour le second tour des Éliminatoires (Fenêtres 4 et 5 des Éliminatoires Zone Afrique), à l’issue duquel les cinq meilleures d’entre elles obtiendront le droit d’aller représenter l’Afrique à la prochaine Coupe du Monde FIBA à 32 équipes, tandis que celles qui seront classées au quatrième rang seront éliminées de la course.
