Le gouvernement doit utiliser d’autres moyens de lutte pour faire face aux accidents de la circulation. Pour cause, ces derniers entraînent chaque année des pertes de PIB de 3 à 5% au niveau national. La révélation a été faite, ce samedi, à Saly par Nathalie Chiavassa, expert principal en sécurité routière à la direction des routes auprès du ministère des transports terrestres et du désenclavement.
«Les pays qui n’investiront pas dans la sécurité routière pourraient perdre 7 à 22 % de leur Pib sur les 25 prochaines années», précise-t-elle.
L’expert s’exprimait lors d’un atelier de formation des journalistes sur la sécurité routière. «Chaque année, on a au minimum 1,35 million de décès dans le monde, soit 3 000 personnes par jour. Plus de 50 millions de personnes sont blessées chaque année», regrette-t-elle.
Actuellement, ajoute-t-elle, les accidents de la circulation sont la 8e cause de mortalité dans le monde. «Cela veut dire que les accidents tuent davantage, plus que le sida et le paludisme. Pour vous dire que c’est la première cause de mortalité pour les jeunes de 5 à 29 ans. 90 % des accidents surviennent dans les pays à faible revenu. Pourtant, ces pays-là, ne possèdent environ pas la moitié du parc automobile mondial. Cela veut dire que dans les années à venir avec le développement économique, la motorisation et l’acquisition d’autres véhicules, les accidents risquent d’augmenter de façon exponentielle», avertit Nathalie Chiavassa.
