Microsoft Defender, le nom ne change pas mais le service évolue et s’ouvre aux systèmes tiers comme Android ou iOS.
Microsoft vient de lancer cette semaine une toute nouvelle application de cybersécurité baptisée « Defender ». Elle sera disponible aussi bien sur les ordinateurs Windows, que sur les appareils macOS, iOS et Android. Bien que le nom de l’application puisse vous paraître familier, vu que ce dernier est utilisé dans la communication de la marque depuis des années, le service est ici nouveau.
En effet, au sein de l’application Microsoft Defender, vous retrouverez un tableau de bord simplifié qui permet d’avoir un accès clair et rapide de la sécurité de ses appareils. Le logiciel va puiser dans les solutions antivirus déjà installées pour faire un « état des lieux » avant de proposer, si c’est nécessaire, une solution de cybersécurité supplémentaire à l’utilisateur.
Un service exclusif pour les abonnés Microsoft 365
Pour le moment le service est réservé aux abonnés Microsoft 365 Personal et Family, nous ne savons pas pour l’heure si Microsoft a prévu d’ouvrir son offre au plus grand nombre avec un système d’abonnement. Cela dépendra sûrement de la popularité de cette nouvelle application.
À noter également que le gros point fort de cette nouvelle application c’est la capacité d’adaptation dont elle dispose. Elle est en effet capable de savoir sur quel système informatique elle se trouve, et elle offre, en fonction, des protections adaptées. Par exemple, sur iOS et iPadOS, Microsoft Defender ne va proposer de solutions antivirus, ces dernières n’existant tout simplement pas.
Une offre qui s’adapte à l’appareil
À la place, l’application va proposer à l’utilisateur des protections contre le phishing sur internet ou par mail. En ce qui concerne les appareils Android, Microsoft Defender inclut une protection antivirus et la possibilité de rechercher des applications potentiellement dangereuses. Elles sont bien plus courantes sous Android que sous iOS, Apple mettant un verrou de sécurité très fort à l’entrée de l’App Store, ce qui bloque une partie conséquente des applications malveillantes.
Enfin, en ce qui concerne les ordinateurs, l’offre varie également. Microsoft proposera des solutions antivirus, mais sous Windows l’application sera surtout un tableau de bord, le reste des tâches étant déjà effectué par Windows Security. Il sera également possible d’avoir un aperçu du niveau de sécurité des autres appareils liés au même compte dans le cadre d’un abonnement Microsoft 365 Family.
