Le projet d’intensification de la production rizicole résiliente au climat en Afrique de l’Ouest (RICOWAS en anglais) intervenant dans 14 pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest dont le Sénégal a été lancé à Diamniadio dans les locaux du ministère de l’Agriculture, de l’Equipement rural et de la Souveraineté alimentaire, a constaté l’APS.
L’objectif de ce projet est rendre la production rizicole plus résiliente aux effets des changements climatiques, a expliqué jeudi Mariama Dramé, Directrice de l’Agence nationale de conseil agricole et rural (ANCAR), au terme d’une rencontre d’échanges organisée avec les parties prenantes du projet en présence du Secrétaire général dudit ministère.
Elle a indiqué que ce projet est financé à hauteur de 14 millions de dollars par le Fonds d’adaptation climatique pour une durée de quatre ans dans 14 pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest.
Ce fonds devrait permettre de créer une ‘’autosuffisance en riz avec des approches novatrices basées sur la résilience au changement climatique », a ajouté la directrice de l’ANCAR, structure choisie pour la mise en œuvre de ce projet au Sénégal.
A cet effet, a-t-elle souligné, »l’Agence va collaborer avec l’ensemble des acteurs qui interviennent dans la chaîne de valeur de la riziculture mais aussi avec ceux de la recherche ou les producteurs’’
Mariama Dramé a souligné que les dernières technologies identifiées dans le cadre de ce projet telles que le système de riziculture intensive mais également les unités de pépinières et de compostage, seront partagées avec les producteurs de riz.
L’ANCAR va également accompagner les acteurs dans le développement institutionnel et la gouvernance du système, a-t-elle ajouté, expliquant que cet accompagnement est destiné à aider les producteurs, à accéder de façon durable aux technologies mais également bénéficier d’un renforcement de capacités techniques afin de maitriser toutes les bonnes pratiques agricoles résilientes aux changements climatiques.
Ousseynou Ndiaye, un des producteurs participant à cette rencontre, s’est réjoui de la mise en œuvre de ce projet, qui selon lui, va »permettre d’augmenter les rendements et booster la productivité rizicole ».
»Nous avons les mêmes terres, les mêmes semences, seulement il y a aujourd’hui, la dimension changement climatique qui entre en jeu avec ce projet, dans l’atteinte de l’objectif d’autosuffisance’’, a-t-il ajouté, relevant qu’il s’agit également, pour les producteurs de participer grâce à ce projet à d’autres activités économiques de la chaine de valeur riz à travers une plateforme de communication et d’échange de connaissances entre diverses groupes d’acteurs d’Afrique de l’Ouest et même au-delà.
