Depuis le 2 juin, l’équipe de Handicap International ratisse le village de Singhere, à une cinquantaine de kilomètres de Ziguinchor, à la recherche de mines cachées
Ces lignes de sécurité indiquent que nous sommes dans une zone interdite comme il en existe des dizaines en Casamance. Et les démineurs fouillent le sol centimètre par centimètre à la recherche d’engins explosifs. Une opération risquée
« L’avancement se fait par la machine qui prépare le sol. Les démineurs passent ensuite derrière. Le travail se fait à pas de caméléon mais en tout sécurité pour que la population puisse réutiliser ses terres plus tard quand nous ne serons plus là ».
Ici, en effet, chaque centimètre fouillé est une victoire pour l’équipe, une lueur d’espoir pour les habitants du village. Car depuis que l’un des leurs a sauté sur une mine, les populations de Singhere vivent dans une peur permanente… n’ayant plus accès à une bonne partie de leurs terres, leur principale source de revenus.
« La présence des démineurs nous rassurent un peu plus car depuis notre retour d’exil, nous sommes hantés par la présence des mines que nous avons trouvé sur place. L’armée est venue et a pu désamorcer certaines mais depuis qu’il y a eu un accident, la peur est encore là. Personne ne peut plus se déplacer comme on il veut, même pour aller dans les champs, on ne peut pas ».
Des milliers d’autres villageois vivent la même situation en Casamance. Au même moment, le Centre national d’action antimines fait face à de grosses difficultés financières. Ce qui ralentit fortement les opérations de déminage dans la région.
