Au Sénégal, certains internautes appellent au retrait des produits infantiles Nestlé du marché sénégalais, depuis qu’une ONG suisse – Public Eye – a révélé que les laits et bouillies infantiles à destination des pays à faibles revenus, notamment au Sénégal, contiennent du sucre ajouté, contrairement aux mêmes produits vendus en Europe.
« Comment Nestlé rend les enfants accros au sucre dans les pays à revenus plus faibles », voilà le titre de la dernière enquête de Public Eye qui fait réagir au Sénégal.
L’ONG et le Réseau international d’action pour l’alimentation infantile ont passé au crible 150 produits commercialisés, par le géant agroalimentaire, au Sénégal, en Afrique du Sud, au Nigeria, mais aussi en Amérique latine.
Résultat : la quasi-totalité des céréales Celerac pour bébé examinées contiennent du sucre ajouté, soit près de 4 grammes par portion en moyenne – environ un carré de sucre – alors qu’elles sont destinées aux bébés dès six mois.
Au Nigeria, ce sucre grimpe à 6,8 g et au Sénégal à 5,9 g pour la même bouillie.
Ce sont des taux de sucre beaucoup trop élevés et dangereux pour la santé, estiment les experts médicaux, alors qu’en Europe, ces mêmes produits sont commercialisés sans sucre et que l’Organisation mondiale pour la santé avertit qu’une exposition précoce au sucre augmente le risque d’obésité.
L’entreprise Nestlé, de son côté, affirme respecter les législations des différents pays et c’est tout le problème : sans organe de contrôle et sans organe de régulation de l’industrie alimentaire, comme c’est le cas au Sénégal, impossible d’obliger les entreprises à respecter certaines normes.
