Des feux de brousse survenus dans plusieurs localités du département de Podor (nord) ont ravagé près de 744, 2 hectares de tapis herbacé et tué plus d’une centaine de têtes de bétail en trois semaines, a indiqué, vendredi, le président départemental de la Maison des éleveurs de Podor, Aboubacry Diallo.
»Du 20 octobre au 8 novembre, la zone a enregistré neuf feux de brousse qui ont complètement brûlé 744, 2 hectares de tapis herbacé », a dit M. Diallo.
Il s’entretenait avec des journalistes au terme d’une tournée dans le ‘’Diéri’’, une zone d’élevage située au sud du département de Podor, pour constater avec les éleveurs locaux, les nombreux dégâts causés par une série de feux de brousse enregistrée dans cette zone.
Dans leur furie, les flammes ont détruit entre 170 et 350 hectares de tapis herbacé, dans la commune de Doumga Lao, soit la plus grande superficie de tapis herbacé ravagée par des feux de brousse, les 3 et 4 novembre derniers, a-t-il informé.
A Billé, une localité située près de Galoya, des feux de brousse enregistrés le 2 novembre ont décimé environ 160 moutons et chèvres.
Le président de la Maison des éleveurs de Podor s’est dit très ému par ce sinistre qui a frappé les éleveurs de cette zone. Il a cité le cas du nommé Oumar Abou Bâ qui a perdu tout son bétail dans ce sinistre. « Nous appelons donc les autorités à venir en aide à cet éleveur sinistré », a-t-il plaidé.
Il a indiqué que ces foyers de feux de brousse n’ont épargné aucun des quatre arrondissements du département de Podor– Saldé, Cas-Cas, Gamadji Saré et Thillé Boubacar–, touchant surtout le ‘’Diéri’’, où neuf feux de brousse ont tout emporté en trois semaines.
Aboubacry Diallo a salué la détermination des agents du service des eaux et forêts et l’engagement des populations dans la surveillance et la protection de ce vaste espace pastoral.
Il a appelé les autorités étatiques à davantage « doter de moyens logistiques, matériels et humains » le service des eaux et forêts de Podor, afin de lui permettre d’être en mesure de faire face aux feux de brousse ou de limiter les dégâts dans ce département de 12.947 km2.
»J’en appelle à l’aide du Gouvernement et des élus locaux pour arrêter le mal, sinon la saison sèche risque d’être très longue et surtout, très pénible pour la population d’éleveurs et leur cheptel déjà très éprouvé », a lancé M. Diallo.
Il avertit que « si rien n’est fait pour stopper le mal, sauvegarder le tapis herbacé, les éleveurs risquent de quitter la zone pour transhumer avec leur cheptel vers les régions du centre, Kaolack et Kaffrine, à l’est, Tambacounda, et plus au sud vers Kolda’ »
