Les faits ont eu lieu la nuit du 1er juin dernier dans le centre-ville d’Amsterdam. L’auteur, un Belge de 22 ans, a été arrêté. La victime, 22 ans également, a été déclarée morte à l’arrivée des secours.
Que s’est-il passé à Amsterdam cette nuit du 1er juin 2022? Pour une raison encore indéterminée, Nongo B. a poignardé Danny Casteldine plus de 30 fois, au niveau de la tête et du cou. Un déferlement de violence inouï, relate AD.nl. Le jeune Britannique passait quelques jours de vacances aux Pays-Bas. Un passant l’a découvert, en sang, dans le centre de la métropole néerlandaise vers 3h30 du matin. Les secours n’ont rien pu faire pour le réanimer et il a été déclaré mort sur les lieux.
On ignore toujours ce qui a pu déclencher une telle folie meurtrière. L’auteur se mure dans le silence et aucun mobile potentiel n’a été dévoilé à ce stade. Son avocat n’a fait aucune déclaration et n’a pas mentionné non plus d’éventuels antécédents judiciaires. Seule indication: Danny a été repéré sur les images des caméras de surveillance municipales alors qu’il traversait le centre-ville vers 2h15. Il était alors encore indemne. Une heure plus tard, il gisait dans une mare de sang.
Au sein de l’entourage de la victime, originaire de la région de Nottingham (Angleterre), c’est la tristesse et la consternation. Une marche blanche a été organisée pour lui rendre hommage et près de 15.000 livres sterling ont été récoltées pour aider une association de soutien aux familles touchées par la perte d’un proche dans des circonstances violentes à l’étranger. L’incompréhension prédomine: “Un acte inutile et insensé”, peut-on lire parmi les nombreuses réactions publiées sur les réseaux sociaux.
L’enquête suit son cours et la police est toujours à la recherche de précieuses pièces à conviction, dont des vêtements de l’auteur portés le jour du crime, susceptibles de fournir des indices supplémentaires.
