Pour la deuxième fois consécutive, l’Alexandria Sporting Club (ASC) se retrouve au sommet de l’Afrique. Les championnes égyptiennes ont été couronnées vainqueurs de la première Ligue africaine de basket-ball féminin (AWBL) qui s’est déroulée sur leur terrain.
La compétition de neuf jours avait rassemblé 10 équipes s’affrontant pour le nouveau look de l’AWBL, précédée par la Coupe des Champions d’Afrique féminine que l’ASC a remportée l’année dernière pour remporter son tout premier titre de club africain.

Affrontant la Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) en finale, le derby de la Zone Cinq de FIBA Afrique, qui était une répétition de leur affrontement dans le Groupe A lors du dernier match de la Phase de Groupes (qui s’est terminé 102-77), a vu les hôtes dominer par 103-59 alors que Le KPA d’Antony Ojukwu s’est contenté de la médaille d’argent pour sa première participation au Last Four dans une compétition continentale.

La meneuse américano-sénégalaise a joué un rôle majeur en aidant l’ASC à remporter l’édition historique de l’AWBL avec une moyenne de 12,7 points, 7,4 passes décisives et 4,6 rebonds en sept matchs.
Dillard a tiré 5 tirs primes sur 9, terminant 17 points et 4 passes décisives alors que l’ASC a démoli la Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 103-59 lors de la finale de la compétition de neuf jours.
Il s’agissait de la deuxième participation consécutive de Dillard à une compétition de clubs FIBA Afrique, après avoir aidé l’ASC à remporter sa toute première Coupe des Champions d’Afrique féminine il y a un an à Maputo, au Mozambique.
En plus du prix AWBL MVP 2023, Dillard a été nommée dans l’équipe All-Star, qui comprenait sa coéquipière et MVP de l’année dernière Hagar Amer, Destiny Philox, Victoria Reynolds et Madina Okot.
