Au moment où les greniers sont devenus vides et que les premières pluies font renaître l’espoir d’une belle moisson, les paysans déplorent la qualité et la quantité des semences qui sont en train d’être distribuées.
Le monde rural, notamment les producteurs d’arachide qui continuent de réclamer un meilleur prix au kilogramme, vivent une période difficile avec des greniers qui sont devenus vides, en attendant les prochaines récoltes dans au moins cinq mois. Les paysans ne sont pas seulement confrontés à un problème d’alimentation en cette période de soudure. La qualité et la quantité des semences qui leur sont distribuées, installent l’inquiétude dans le monde rural.
La semaine dernière à Thiaré, une localité du centre du Saloum, les paysans ont reçu 18 kg de semence d’arachide par tête. Dans d’autres zones du pays, des paysans ont reçu moins. À cette petite quantité des semences, s’ajoute leur mauvaise qualité.
Si aucune solution n’est trouvée, la prochaine moisson risque d’être décevante. Car, sans ces graines, les cultures agricoles seront compromises. Si au Sénégal 27% des ménages cultivent l’arachide, selon une donnée officielle, dans le monde rural, c’est plus de la moitié de sa composante qui s’adonnent à la culture de l’arachide. On ne peut pas encourager le retour à l’agriculture, sans des semences en quantité et qualité.
En tout cas, le monde rural est inquiet. Alors que les pluies commencent à tomber, cette situation installe le désespoir dans le monde rural. À propos de greniers vides, il est perceptible au Fouta et dans certaines parties du Sénégal oriental. Les greniers sont aussi vides au niveau de villages du Ndoucoumane, dans la région de Kaffrine, dans la plupart des localités du Cayor et du Baol.
S’il y a au Sénégal une catégorie qui émerge, quelque part, dans le monde rural, c’est bien celle de ces Sénégalais qui se morfondent dans la faim et le désespoir d’une saison des pluies qui a mal démarré.
