The disturbing video for Disease sees her fighting with different versions of herself

The video begins with the star seemingly the victim

The critics may well have savaged her last offering, but Lady Gaga had the last laugh on Wednesday evening as London welcomed the UK premiere of her
new film, Joker: Folie à Deux. 

The singer turned actress takes a starring role as Harley Quinn in the psychological thriller,
in which Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the titular
Joker – Batman’s soon-to-be nemesis. 

Arriving at CIneworld Leicester Square alongside ever-supportive
fiancé Michael Polansky, Gaga looked incredible in a custom-made gown from Celine by Hedi Slimane as she greeted fans. 

The incredible structured number featured dramatic shoulder pads
and a plunging neckline which showed off her figure as she posed up
a storm.

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations
reopened two days after a chaotic election, set to
test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by technical problems.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and labelled a « sham » by the opposition.

Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for
the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party,
in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.

Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to register voters and
shortages of ballot papers.

In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink
had run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had
left areas with voters still in the queues, it said.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral
commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening
to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert
Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

« Everyone will have the chance to vote, » he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried « everyone will flock to one place again. »

The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties
with some calling for a halt in the electoral process.

Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change
(IPC) party.

Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence are challenging support towards SWAPO
which has ruled since 1990.

Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich country.

« To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd, » said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.

« Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos? » asked
the 49-year-old security agent.

« It was to get people frustrated. »

Abbie’s comments echo sentiments from the 4B movement which sprung up in South Korea
in the mid 2010’s.

The radical feminist movement, calls for proponents to not
date, get married, have sex, or have children with men.

Following the US presidential election some American women declared solidarity with the movement is a form of protest against
Donald Trump, and his role in the overturning of Roe v.

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are
many ways to serve them (see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness
to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince.
This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a meal for an emergency.

SERVES 4

4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion

1 onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, chopped

400g tin chopped tomatoes

200g white bread (day old, if possible)

whole milk (enough to soak the bread)

500g beef mince

250g English veal mince

2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

4 anchovies, finely chopped

2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

salt and freshly ground black pepper

350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)

1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive
oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and half the garlic, then sauté for
10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to
a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to
create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.

2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft.
In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies,
half the parsley and the rest of the onions and garlic.

Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.
Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.

3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat.
When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour all
over. If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed together,
setting each batch aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.

4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a
medium heat. Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook through.
Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.

TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.

If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according
to the packet instructions until al dente. Drain it in a colander,
reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball
sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the
pan and toss it with a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti
on a serving plate and top with the meatballs and sauce.

Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan.

Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips,
despite Virgin offering cheaper tickets.

Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per cent of
work trips last year despite it not always being the cheapest route, according to travel data provided to the government.

While politicians and their staffers are required to book the cheapest flight, it also has to be the most efficient, with Qantas offering the most routes between major cities.

MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips like ordinary
Aussies can, but they can can receive lifetime status credits, which allows access to airport lounges and flight upgrades.

‘How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas
in securing bookings by parliamentarians and their staff?’ Myriam Robin wrote
in an opinion piece for the Australian Financial Review.

‘There’s nothing like accruing status credits on someone else’s dime.’

Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to a review of flight bookings by government officials which will be conducted by the Department of Finance this year,
despite there being just two months left of 2024.

Politicians’ preference for Qantas may also be put down to
the airline’s exclusive invite-only ‘Chairman’s Lounge’.

Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the country has
accepted free membership of the club.

Qantas and the Albanese government have both denied the airline enjoys any disproportionate level of influence over the country’s political classes.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both the House of Representatives and the
Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders
have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.

Often touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the Chairman’s Lounge has long been veiled
in secrecy.

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP
clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably discreet.

Though, once inside, the designer lounges are immediately more ostentatious, with free à la
carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.

Membership to the club is ‘priceless’ – it cannot be bought for any amount of money nor obtained via any amount of frequent flyers points.

Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company’s chief executive and chairman.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to choose
between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights

As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire,
each major candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.

In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot
peak, with both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.

And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020
by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot truly will count.

In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts
were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters
to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and, while
they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.

To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to « a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created. »

She added, « Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people. »

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely limited.

Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous
consequences for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses
when doctors refuse to treat them.

« Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need, » she told
AFP.

– ‘Abortion is murder’ –

As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly
to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the
three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

« It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same, » Ireland said.

But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.

« I do think that abortion is murder, » said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.

« There are cases of incest or rape » that merit exceptions, he conceded, « but that’s very small. »

He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants
that have entered the country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.

« People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from, » he said.

« My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way. »

So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back
the proposal to let local law enforcement detain,
arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered the country
illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who work for the federal government.

« I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything, » Lopez said.

– Mixed impact –

The major political parties see the competing
referendums as offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to
vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House that activists hope.

Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona,
with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.

Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to pass.

So the abortion issue may not be « helping Democrats in the way that they would hope, » said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.

Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and
to bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.

Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes « a broad spectrum of views on the topic, » an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns
about « government interference, » she added.

The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding support not
just among Trump Republicans but also « moderates and even many Democrats, » said John Kavanagh, a Republican and
an Arizona state senator.

The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent
toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.

The vice president, Kavanagh said, is « running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol. »

To challenge someone is to dare someone

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is at the heart of their
reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?

In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments
against proposed electoral reforms that the major parties look set to come together to support.

The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the
amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit
on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently
spend.

The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political
donations in the first place.

So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes
– and the extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.

The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the
speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.

At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you
only find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later, well after elections
are won and lost.

In other words, what is broadly being proposed
will result in much greater transparency and far less big money being injected
into campaigning by the wealthy.

Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the
policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party,
as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having
done so. And how much they can donate will be capped.

Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed
new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’
and ‘a rort, not a reform’. 

They have lost their collective minds after finding
out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.

I had to double check who was criticising what exactly
before even starting to write this column.

Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence
of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench
effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.

More fool me.

The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by
a growing cabal of crossbenchers.

It makes you wonder what they have to hide.
Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much
on this issue.

Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive
Palmer

Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their
irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt
and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)

The major parties have long complained about the influence the
likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals. 

And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past,
contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations
rules.

Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms
that will curtail dark art of political donations.

The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency
rules to take effect immediately, by the way. It won’t be
some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch
the crossbench out.

They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.

Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor
and the Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to
go over the laws with a fine tooth comb.

As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would
create loopholes only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to
come.

But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should offer
their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being
advocated for.

They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated in the package.

To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to
‘clean things up’.

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days after a chaotic election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by technical problems.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and labelled
a « sham » by the opposition.

Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as
the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.

Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to
register voters and shortages of ballot papers.

In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of
batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas
with voters still in the queues, it said.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral
commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo
who arrived at 4:30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but
left before being able to vote as he had exams the next
day.

« Everyone will have the chance to vote, » he said. But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried « everyone will flock to one place again. »

The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with

Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and
issue a joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party.

Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and
the emergence of a generation born after independence are
challenging support towards SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.

Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the
first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round

« To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd, » said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.

« Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos? » asked the 49-year-old
security agent.

« It was to get people frustrated. »

The cost for one of London’s most pricey apartments will begin at £35million – with 600 megarich customers already securing a spot on the waiting

The size of the homes has not yet been disclosed but the developers say even the most
modest property will start with a guide price exceeded by only a handful of mansions in London’s richest neighbourhoods. 

The average price of all 29 units – which cover 300,000 sq ft – will be close
to £70million.

The entry level price of £35million is 70 times the average
London property value of around £500,000, and 130 times the national average
price of £268,000 revealed in today’s Nationwide house price survey for
November.

The development’s basement is being dug down to 90ft
below ground level to make room for a health spa with
a 20 metre swimming pool as well as a car park.

The designs were led by New York based architect Robert Stern and practice RAMSA, with contractors, Mace, the construction managers and PJ Carey responsible for the creation of the basement substructure and superstructure.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 after a six years build the scheme will easily surpass London’s previous record breaker,
the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

The ceremony was marked by the final steel rafter, one of 79 at roof level, being put into

Briton Matthew Smith, the partner of former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael Jeffries,

The partner of the ex-CEO of the Abercrombie and Fitch clothing line pleaded not guilty Tuesday
in US federal court to charges of sex trafficking and interstate prostitution and was released on $10 million bond.

Briton Matthew Smith, the ex-CEO Mike Jeffries and their fixer James Jacobson allegedly
used a « casting couch » ploy to groom aspiring male models to attend sex parties at which victims were plied with
alcohol and drugs.

After his arrest in October in Florida with Jeffries, Smith was held in custody in New York.

Smith appeared in court Tuesday in Central Islip on Long Island,
to the east of New York City.

Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10 million bond put up by Jeffries and his family, said a
statement from the US attorney’s office for the eastern district of New
York.

An AFP photographer saw Smith leave the courthouse
with what appeared to be a large electronic surveillance bracelet
attached to his ankle.

Another hearing is scheduled for December 10 for
Smith, Jeffries and Jacobson.

Jeffries, 80, was released on a $10 million bond in late October.

Jeffries, who served as CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch from 1992 to
2014, is accused of creating and maintaining a ring that recruited
young men to have sex with him and Smith.

Prosecutors allege that between December 2008 and March 2015 Jeffries, Smith

July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch of
its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S.

to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its annual
forecast for the heated tobacco business.

The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin, Texas, in the second quarter, for which the company reported results
on the day.

The company declined to comment on why the launch had been delayed.

Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its portfolio
of alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes amid stricter regulations and falling smoking
rates in some markets.

The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United States is also facing resistance
from health campaigners, who have written to regulators in the country accusing the company of misrepresenting past regulatory decisions, Reuters reported last week.

The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S.

Food and Drug Administration for its IQOS ILUMA device, which it
expects by the second half of 2025.

A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has
already hit shipments this year, with Philip Morris saying the impact from
the ban was « slightly greater » than previously assumed.

This led the company to temper its expectations for volume growth in the heated tobacco category to around
13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.

However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations and raised its annual sales and profit
forecasts, betting on demand for its Zyn nicotine pouches, as

WASHINGTON, Dec 10 (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court is set on Tuesday to examine the
extent to which federal agencies must review the environmental impact of projects they regulate
in a dispute over a proposed railway in Utah that was challenged by environmental groups and a Colorado county.

The court will hear arguments in an appeal by a coalition of seven Utah counties
of a lower court’s decision that halted the project and faulted the
environmental impact statement issued by a federal body called the Surface Transportation Board in approving the railway.

The counties are seeking to construct an 88-mile
(142-km) railway line in northeastern Utah to
connect the sparsely populated Uinta Basin region to an existing freight rail network that would be
used primarily to transport waxy crude oil.

The case tests the scope of environmental impact studies that federal
agencies must conduct under a U.S. law called the National Environmental Policy Act, enacted in 1970 to prevent environmental harms that might
result from major projects.

Companies and environmental groups are closely watching for the potential effect the case could have on infrastructure and energy projects.

The Surface Transportation Board, which has regulatory authority over new railroad
lines, issued an environmental impact statement
and approved the coalition’s proposal in 2021.

The dispute centers on the scope of environmental reviews under the law at issue, which
mandates that agencies examine the « reasonably foreseeable » effects
of a project. Environmental reviews that are too vast can add years
to the regulatory timeline, risking a project’s
viability and future infrastructure development, according to
companies and business trade groups.

The Center for Biological Diversity and other environmental groups sued over the board’s decision to allow the project, as did Eagle County, Colorado, noting that the project would increase train traffic in its
region and double traffic on an existing rail line along the Colorado River.

The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia
Circuit ruled in favor of the challengers in 2023, concluding
that the environmental review inadequately analyzed the effects
of increased oil production in the basin as well as downstream, where the oil would be refined.

Democratic President Joe Biden’s administration backed the
railway coalition in the case, as did the state of Utah, urging
the Supreme Court to overturn the lower court’s ruling.

The Justice Department said in a filing that the
law at issue, as well as related regulations and Supreme Court precedents,
« establish that an agency is not required to consider every environmental harm that the agency can reasonably foresee. »

In approving the railway, the board « drew a reasonable line in declining to undertake more detailed analysis of the upstream and downstream effects of oil and gas development, » the department added.

Colorado supported the project’s challengers, with the state saying in a filing to the Supreme Court that its
economy is reliant on outdoor recreation, and that
the railway project « raises the risk of leaks, spills or rail car accidents immediately adjacent to the headwaters of the Colorado River. » Fourteen other states also
backed the challengers in the case. Eight of the nine justices will
hear arguments in the case. Conservative Justice Neil
Gorsuch recused himself on Dec. 4, a move that came after
some Democratic lawmakers urged his withdrawal from the case because businessman Philip Anschutz,
a former legal client of the justice, has « a direct financial interest in the outcome. »

A ruling in the case is expected by the end of June.
