Comme les NFT, le métavers s’est imposé comme la tendance de 2022. Propulsé par Mark Zuckerberg le patron de Meta, le monde virtuel présenté comme l’avenir d’Internet nous promettait un web décentralisé, encore plus immersif et totalement ouvert.
Aujourd’hui, les métavers existent mais ils sont encore très loin des mondes virtuels qu’on imaginait. Certaines initiatives sortent du lot, comme le premier sexshop virtuel ouvert il y a quelques jours sur la plateforme Decentraland, ou encore cette rentrée des classes virtuelles organisée par un groupe scolaire japonais pour réunir les élèves malgré la pandémie de covid-19. Malgré quelques actions isolées, il faut pourtant bien se rendre à l’évidence : le grand public ne s’y intéresse pas.
Le futur du dating est-il dans le métavers ?
Selon une récente étude publiée par le cabinet Censuswide et relayée par nos confrères de BFMTV, le grand public a non seulement du mal à comprendre les enjeux du métavers, mais en plus, il s’en moque. Une avancée technologique qui peine à trouver son public, pour la simple et bonne raison que le monde virtuel promis par les géants du web est encore (très) loin de la réalité technique. La VR n’a pas encore investi nos habitudes, et certaines plateformes ressemblent davantage à un MMORPG des années 2020 qu’à un véritable univers parallèle.

Il est peut-être encore trop tôt pour saisir les enjeux et les possibilités offertes par le métavers. Selon l’étude, les raisons de ce désamour pour les mondes virtuels viendraient principalement d’un décalage entre les attendre du public et les possibilités techniques (pour le moment limitées) offertes par cette technologie. Pour autant, les promesses sont nombreuses, et les investissements ne cessent de grimper : d’ici 2024, on estime que le marché aura dépassé les 800 milliards de dollars de chiffre d’affaires.
