Dix enfants issus des quartiers de la Langue de Barbarie, à Saint-Louis, ont été primés, mardi, à l’issue d’un concours d’expression artistique organisé par le Projet de protection côtière de Saint-Louis (PPCS).
Ce concours, auquel ont participé 27 enfants des quartiers de pêcheurs de Guet-Ndar et Ndar Toute, avait pour objectif d’évaluer le niveau de compréhension des enfants par rapport aux changements climatiques qui frappent cette partie de Saint-Louis, a expliqué Mouhamadou Makhtar Kane, expert communication de ce projet mis en œuvre par l’Agence de développement municipal (ADM).
Il s’exprimait au cours du vernissage des oeuvres réalisées par ces enfants.
Selon lui, ’’toutes les composantes de la population ont été bénéficiaires d’une séance de sensibilisation, à l’exception des enfants qui n’ont été touchés que par l’intermédiaire de leurs encadreurs’’.
Ce projet d’urgence dont l’objectif est de protéger les populations contre l’avancée de la mer, a été financé par l’Agence française de développement (AFD) à hauteur de dix milliards de francs, a-t-il rappelé.
L’adjoint au préfet de Saint-Louis, Amadou Ba, a souligné la maîtrise du sujet par les enfants qui, dit-il, comprennent les enjeux de ce projet.
’’Nous comptons sur eux pour sensibiliser leurs parents’’, a indiqué M. Ba, rappelant que le PPCS a réalisé une digue de protection de 1750 m en deux ans d’existence et mené des actions de sensibilisation par rapport aux changements climatiques.
Au cours de cette cérémonie, des récompenses ont été offertes aux enfants primés, en présence de leurs parents et de certains notables des quartiers ciblés.
