La lutte contre le travail des enfants est un travail de longue haleine. A Kolda où a été célébrée hier la Journée mondiale de lutte contre le travail des enfants, il a été montré que les motos Jakarta et la mendicité sont les secteurs qui attirent toujours des mômes qui ont abandonné les études de façon prématurée.
Les pires formes de travail des enfants se font enregistrer dans le secteur du transport. A Kolda, beaucoup de gamins de 15 ans sont des conducteurs de motos Jakarta. Un constat amer de l’Inspection du travail et de la protection sociale de Kolda. Selon Babacar Sy, le phénomène est récurrent à Kolda malgré la sensibilisation. «La mendicité est aussi un terrain largement exploité par des enfants. D’autres secteurs comme la menuiserie, la mécanique, sont aussi indexés», ajoute l’inspecteur du Travail et de la sécurité sociale. Face à cette situation, la coopération allemande, à savoir la Giz, et le ministère du Travail ont décidé d’unir leurs forces pour éradiquer ce mal. «Cela passe par l’accompagnement scolaire des enfants et celui des centres de formation professionnelle», soulignent les acteurs.
A l’occasion de la Journée mondiale de lutte contre le travail des enfants célébrée lundi à Kolda, 250 enfants ont bénéficié de kits scolaires et de kits de formation professionnelle dans les domaines de la restauration, de la coiffure, entre autres. C’est une façon de réduire le manque de qualification de ces enfants qui ont abandonné l’école de manière précoce. «Pour lutter contre le travail des enfants, il y a deux volets essentiels : il s’agit de faire la promotion de la scolarisation universelle par le principe de l’éducation de qualité pour tous, mais aussi la protection sociale universelle.
Ce dernier volet englobe les moyens complémentaires de l’Etat pour accompagner les familles vulnérables. L’école étant un ascenseur social, ces récompenses permettent aux bénéficiaires de faire des avancées dans la vie scolaire et professionnelle», explique Ibra Ndoye, conseiller technique à la Giz.
Au-delà de l’éducation, il est essentiel d’impliquer les parents dans la protection des enfants contre les pires formes de travail. Il faut alors mettre l’accent sur les bienfaits de l’école et sur les méfaits du travail des enfants.
