Considérées par Brave comme « un ennui infâme et presque constant sur le web », les bannières de consentement des cookies seront masquées et, dans la mesure du possible, complètement bloquées, dans la prochaine mise à jour du navigateur. L’éditeur du navigateur espère ainsi mettre un terme à la distraction qu’elles engendrent, mais aussi au potentiel risque engendré pour la confidentialité des utilisateurs.
Au démarrage du navigateur, Brave affichera une fenêtre pour vous demander si vous souhaitez, ou non, bloquer les bannières de consentement des cookies. Ces préférences pourront par ailleurs être modifiées dans les Paramètres du navigateur. Si vous acceptez, le navigateur téléchargera une liste de règles prédéfinies pour bloquer et masquer ces bannières et ainsi rompre tout contact avec leur diffuseur. Une méthode similaire à celle employée par certains bloqueurs de contenus et plus particulièrement par des bloqueurs de publicité, que Brave considère comme plus respectueuse de la vie privée.
Brave explique que son approche est différente de celle utilisée par certains navigateurs concurrents ou extensions dédiées qui se contentent d’automatiser le clic sur « Non » pour refuser les cookies. Car si ce système permet en effet de réduire le nombre de cookies envoyés, il enregistre les préférences de l’utilisateur auprès du site sur lequel est affichée la bannière. Contrairement à la méthode employée par Brave, le navigateur ou l’extension qui utilisent cette méthode continue de communiquer avec le site Web à plusieurs reprises au cours de la navigation pour lui demander de ne pas déposer de cookies.
