La sécurité du sang et des produits sanguins ainsi que la sécurité transfusionnelle sont des aspects essentiels des soins et de la santé publique. Ils jouent un rôle majeur dans le traitement des personnes atteintes de diverses maladies ou blessées à la suite d’un accident, d’une catastrophe naturelle ou d’un conflit armé. Le besoin de sang est universel, mais l’accès à celui-ci est limité, notamment dans les pays à revenu faible ou intermédiaire, où les pénuries touchent particulièrement les femmes et les enfants, qui sont généralement ceux qui en ont le plus besoin.
