Le Sénégal, qui assumera la présidence du Conseil des ministres africains chargés de l’eau (AMCOW) pour la période 2025-2027, s’est engagé à adopter une approche résolument axée sur l’action pour maximiser l’impact des initiatives liées à l’eau et à l’assainissement en Afrique.
Le ministre de l’Hydraulique et de l’Assainissement, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, a réaffirmé cet engagement lors d’une intervention par visioconférence, mardi 18 février 2025, à Kampala, Ouganda, dans le cadre du Congrès international et exposition de l’Association africaine de l’eau et de l’assainissement (AAEA), qui se tient du 16 au 20 février 2025 sur le thème : « Eau et Assainissement pour tous : Un avenir sûr pour l’Afrique ».
« La présidence sénégalaise de l’AMCOW s’engage à adopter une approche pragmatique et orientée vers l’action, visant à renforcer l’impact des initiatives liées à l’eau et à l’assainissement en Afrique.
L’objectif est de mobiliser les États, les partenaires au développement, et toutes les parties prenantes africaines pour construire une Afrique libre, souveraine, prospère et résiliente d’ici à 2063 », a déclaré M. Dièye.
Le ministre a précisé que le Sénégal, en tant que nouveau président de l’AMCOW, proposera une nouvelle vision africaine de l’eau, centrée sur des enjeux cruciaux pour le développement du continent, tout en défendant une position unifiée et un plaidoyer politique fort au sein de l’Union Africaine et dans l’agenda mondial de l’eau.
« Fidèle à ses engagements internationaux, le Sénégal a pris des responsabilités majeures pour porter cette vision et la traduire en impact réel sur la vie des populations et la dynamisation des secteurs de la production », a ajouté Cheikh Tidiane Dièye. Il a rappelé que, dans son rôle de co-organisateur de la 3ème Conférence des Nations Unies sur l’Eau en 2026, aux côtés des Émirats Arabes Unis, le Sénégal continuera de placer l’eau au cœur de l’agenda politique mondial.
Le ministre a insisté sur l’importance de considérer l’eau comme une priorité absolue pour l’Afrique, surtout face aux défis croissants liés au changement climatique et aux pressions démographiques. « Une réponse collective, rapide et coordonnée à ces défis est essentielle », a-t-il affirmé.
« L’eau est bien plus qu’une simple ressource naturelle.
Elle est le fondement même de la vie, le moteur de la prospérité économique et le pilier de la stabilité environnementale. Dans un monde marqué par les crises climatiques et socio-économiques, sa gestion et sa gouvernance représentent une priorité stratégique pour garantir un avenir durable », a conclu le ministre.
Le Congrès international et l’exposition de l’AAEA sont des événements majeurs qui rassemblent des acteurs clés du secteur de l’eau et de l’assainissement en Afrique.
L’AAEA, fondée en 1980 sous l’appellation Union Africaine des Distributeurs d’Eau (UADE), est une organisation professionnelle qui regroupe plus de 237 membres, dont 100 opérateurs publics de plus de 40 pays du continent. Lors de l’ouverture officielle du congrès, Olivier Gosso, directeur exécutif de l’AAEA, a rappelé que l’organisation a évolué pour relever les défis croissants de notre époque.
